Iowa, July 6, 2009 - Northeast Iowa sportsmen are taking aim at cancer
cure and prevention on Sunday, Aug. 2 when the Fayette County
Conservation Club hosts the second annual Shootout Against Cancer, a
clay target shooting "fun day" event on the club grounds west of
Oelwein. The Aug. 2 sporting clays shoot begins at 9 a.m. and is open
to all shooting enthusiasts. Shootout organizers extend a special
invitation to people, of all ages, who are interested in learning
about and taking part in the game of sporting clays. Participants
register on the club grounds the day of the shoot. Cost is $50 for the
100-target sporting clays course and lunch. The Fayette County
Conservation Club grounds are located west of Oelwein. To drive to the
grounds, go to the junction of state Highways 3 and 150 in the center
of Oelwein and turn west onto West Charles Street. On Aug. 2,
prominent signs will be placed on West Charles Street to direct you to
the conservation club entrance. Three-person teams will go together
through the shootout's sporting clays course. Participants can form
their own three-person teams for the event, or register as an
individual and be assigned to a team. |
Starting
times will be assigned at registration and will go from 9 a.m. to 1
p.m. Shooters may also participate in a long-shot contest and shoot a
game of 5-stand sporting clays for additional cost. Raffle tickets for
a Winchester Super X3 sporting clays 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun
will also be available on the grounds for $10 each or three for $20.
All proceeds from the shoot and related fund-raising events will go to
the American Cancer Society. "The Shootout Against Cancer is a fun
event for shooters of all ages and ability levels," said Hugh Curtis,
Fayette County Conservation Club member and organizer of the annual
shootout. "Along with our primary goal of raising funds for the fight
against cancer, this is also an opportunity to get more people
involved in their communities' shooting sports organizations, local
conservation organizations, and outdoor sports clubs." Curtis said the
100-target sporting clays course will be a fun course for both veteran
and novice shooters. The targets will be set by sporting clays range
designer and operator Mike Kelsey and Targets on the Move. For
